The Safari Mailman
I’m excited to introduce "The Safari Mailman"!
This is a children’s rhyming storybook that my wife, Christie Henriksen, and I created together, based on a fun story idea she had for kids ages 3 to 6.
For me, this project was a chance to approach a children’s book with the same kind of visual development thinking I use in games and entertainment. Character design, shape language, appeal, storytelling, worldbuilding, readability, and style exploration all played a big part in bringing Tommy and his safari world to life.
It was also a really fun opportunity to work in a brighter, more cartoony style than I usually get to explore in my professional concept art work.
As you look through the project, you’ll see some of the design process behind Tommy, the animal cast, the logo, and some of the final illustrated pages from the book.
